Biography

Sajjad Alibaigi holds a Bachelor degree in Archeology from Islamic Azad University, Abhar Branch. He received both his Master's and PhD degree in Archeology from Tehran University, with the latter being in 2014. He began his official collaboration with Razi University in 2014 as a visiting lecturer and then as a faculty member.

Dr Alibaigi is an Archaeologist of the Central Zagros and is interested in investigating the situation of this region in the Iron Age especially the Neo-Assyrian Period. He is also interested in analyzing the cultural and social relations between Iran and Mesopotamia since the Chalcolithic period. In recent years, he has sought to find clues about the presence of the Assyrians and their control over the region by researching and exploring in Kermanshah province.
Since 2017, Dr Ali-Beigi has started the archaeological project of Tapeh Kheibar Archaeological Project in collaboration with Dr. Nicole Brisch, Associate Professor of Assyrian Studies at the University of Copenhagen, and he is currently the Director of the Archaeological Excavation Quwakh Tapeh of Kouzaran (in Kermanshah province).
In addition to important discoveries such as the Gawri wall, Neo-Assyrian Rock Relief of Mishkhas, Darvan Douhol Rock Reliefs, Stele of Sargon II in Quwakh Tapeh, he was involved in numerous field work, such as Malyan, Nahavand, Khurhe, Taq-e Bustan, Bisotoun, Palang Gerd, Asiab, Ganj Darreh and many other ancient sites of Iran. He has also been the director of several Excavation Projects including excavation in Tapeh Kul Yeri (Karvansara), Tapeh Kheibar, Quwakh Tapeh, Archaeological survey in Kuran Buzan valley, and in Sar Pol-e Zahab District.
His single-authored and joint papers have been published in prestigious national and international scientific journals such as Journal of Near Eastern Studies, Zeitschrift für Assyriologie, Journal of Cuneiform Studies, Oxford Journal of Archaeology, Antiquity, Zeitschrift für Orient-Archäologie, State Archives of Assyria Bulletin, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Iranica Antiqua, Studia Iranica, Iran, Iraq, Expedition, NABU, Journal of the American Oriental Society, Bulletin of the American School of Oriental Research, Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, and etc.
